Pollen Street Capital has agreed to acquire Mattioli Woods in a £432m deal, one of the largest transactions in the sector in recent years. This transaction is subject to regulatory approval and will result in Mattioli Woods delisting from AIM and transitioning into private ownership, as the trend of private equity-backed consolidation in UK wealth management continues.

Mattioli Woods manages £15bn in assets for around 20,000 clients and has established a strong presence by integrating asset management and financial planning, primarily serving the mass affluent market. The shift to private ownership is expected to provide the firm with greater strategic flexibility, allowing it to accelerate its growth plans with Pollen Street's backing.

Lindsey McMurray, Managing Partner at Pollen Street, stated, "We believe that Mattioli Woods would benefit from a transition to private ownership, which would enable the firm to accelerate its growth strategy and capitalise on the market opportunity in UK wealth management."

CEO Ian Mattioli echoed this sentiment, emphasising that the deal aligns with the company's long-term vision: "With Pollen Street's support and access to capital, we can speed up the delivery of our strategy and provide clients with the proactive advice and bespoke investment solutions they require."

The acquisition of Mattioli Woods follows a series of significant private equity-driven transactions, including Saltus' purchase of Lowes Financial Management and Shackleton's recent acquisition of Harrold Financial Planning. These deals illustrate the growing influence of private equity firms in reshaping the UK advice and wealth management market.

The deal is expected to be finalised in the second or third quarter of 2024, contingent on shareholder and regulatory approval.
